Deer Hunters of Idaho is a non-profit
membership organization committed to maximizing deer
populations within the state of
Idaho
through direct financial support for habitat improvement,
research projects, and hunter education.
What
our members do:
Members of the Deer Hunters of Idaho are
avid deer hunters and conservationists.
They work with many different organizations including
the Idaho Wildlife Federation, Idaho Department of
Fish
&
Game
,
Idaho
Hunter Education Instructor’s Association, Idaho
Sportsmen’s
Alliance
and other local organizations to help improve and maintain the
wildlife resource.
Some of the projects that the organization has been
involved in are: Providing radio collars for deer and
assisting Fish & Game with the yearly fawn mortality study
so that their movements and habits can be tracked and
understood, providing rifles to the Idaho mandated hunter
education program, helping purchase and plant bitterbrush, and
helping out with the maintenance and improvements at Black’s
Creek shooting range. In addition, Deer Hunter’s of
Idaho
in conjunction with Sportsman’s Warehouse sponsors the
annual Big Buck Contest held in January.
Through our newsletter members are kept
current on Fish & Game issues and changes and the board of
directors relay members concerns and recommendations back to
Fish & Game thereby giving hunters a voice in the
management of the wildlife resource.
Who
this organization is for:
Our organization is made up of members
from across Idaho and from out of state that are true
sportsmen who enjoy the outdoors and realize that there is a
need to put back some of things that we take so that our
hunting heritage is maintained for future generations.
Philosophy:
The club is committed to helping maintain
and enhance the deer herds of Idaho.
We understand how important the deer herds of
Idaho
are, not only as a resource for hunting but also as a source
of wildlife viewing enjoyment and photography.
Meetings:
The
board of directors for each chapter meet every month and
weekly in the two months prior to the annual banquet. A
quarterly newsletter is published four times a year and sent
to all members.
Members get together for various
activities and for the annual banquets.
Funding for the organizations activities comes from the
annual banquets. There are two banquets held each year, one
for the South West and one for the South Central Chapters. There is
a buffet dinner, live and silent auctions, raffles, (including
women’s and youth’s tables), games, speakers, booths,
taxidermy displays, and much more. A typical live auction will
have hunting and fishing trips, taxidermy mounts, and many
other hunting and outdoor related items.
